HOUSTON, TX – The newly-opened Yiayia’s Pappas Greek Kitchen in Houston isn’t a remake of what it replaced – Yia Yia Mary’s – said the owner’s family, but a total overhaul into a 4,000-square foot space without a hint of traditional Greek scenery.

“Everything is new,” said Christina Pappas, the restaurant group’s chief marketing officer. “We wanted to take what we’ve learned so you’re not going to come in and get the exact same experience,” said Houston Culture Map.

It’s still an homage to their grandmother Mary, although the restaurant in her name was a victim of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.  Chief Design Officer Evy Pappas led the efforts in to reinvent the restaurant and menu.

“It’ll definitely still be Pappas portions overall,” Michael Fikaris, Pappas’ research and development concept chef, said. “The value will be there.”

As the team puts it, “every visit is a celebration of food, family and the joy of gathering around the table,” family style. “Our mission is to make you love this place,” Christina Pappas  also said.
